Biography
Sophia Mattice-Aldous covers rural issues for the Miner, a weekly in Newport, and for RANGE Media in Spokane. She has more than 20 years of experience as a reporter and photojournalist serving rural communities in Eastern Washington and North Idaho. She has covered everything from economics, health, education, crime, the environment, the arts, sports, etc. Sophia alsohas won numerous awards for her writing and photos from the Washington Newspaper Publishers Association. She began her newspaper career at 19 years old, reporting for the Statesman-Examiner in Colville before moving to Newport in 2015 to write for the Miner. In 2018 she was promoted to editor for the Miner’s Idaho newspaper, the Gem State Miner.
