I grew up between Portland and Woodland, and got my start reporting covering policing, housing and health for Portland’s investigative weekly newspaper, Street Roots. From there, I worked as the Jim Lehrer Fellow at PBS Newshour, then covered rural health in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley as a Report for America corps member for two public radio stations.
