News Fellowship

Report for Washington 2027
A committee of five is evaluating applications submitted by Washington newsroom leaders seeking to participate in the newly restructured WSU Murrow Fellows/Report for Washington program, a partnership between WSU and Report for America aimed at strengthening local journalism statewide. The initiative seeks to place reporters in communities for two to three years, with an eventual goal of ensuring strong civic reporting in all 39 counties. Thirteen newsrooms will be selected to host fellows in 2027 (starting either in January or July), 13 in 2028 and the final 13 in 2029. Host news organizations are expected to be announced Aug. 12. Applications for reporting candidates will be open Aug. 12-30. Fellows matched to a newsroom will begin Jan. 11, 2027.
